Launchbury: I'd never won anything before the Grand Slam

WASPS academy star Joe Launchbury had never won anything at any level before last Friday, but he shook that monkey off his back in spectacular style for England U20s.

The talented second row was named Man of the Match as England beat Ireland in Athlone to win the U20s Six Nations Grand Slam.

He said: “It’s the one and only competition I’ve won. Even at school I never won anything.

“I was thinking about it the other night, and I can’t think of a single thing I’ve won rugby related.”

Launchbury was inspirational in England’s 41-15 victory, taking the Man of the Match award in only his third appearance.

He said: “To win the Grand Slam was the main focus but getting the Man of the Match too was a nice bonus.”

Wasps academy team-mate Elliot Daly, who scored four tries in half an hour against Italy a month ago, also started while Sam Jones was on the bench.
