A party atmosphere will be cooked up in Surrey Street market on Saturday as part of a 'Love Food Hate Waste' Christmas celebration event.
A demonstration kitchen will host a Ready, Steady, Cook style challenge at the event on Saturday, where a professional chef will also be serving food samples and offering top tips.
The event on December 15, aims to help households save up to £50 a month on grocery bills while cutting down on the amount of food thrown away.
Croydon Council's recycling team will also be on hand with games and prizes, while shoppers will be invited to pledge to make simple changes to everyday habits in exchange for a water bottle or shopping bag.
The event, which runs between 10am and 4pm, is the first of three market events in the borough, which have been funded by £14,000 awarded to Croydon from Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) as part of the campaign.
Phil Thomas, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said: "We are really pleased to have been awarded the funding for Love Food Hate Waste from WRAP, particularly bearing in mind how much can be saved just by wasting less food."
