Organic Matters exhibition comes to East Molesey
11:00am Saturday 14th July 2012 in Freetime By Louise Robertson
An exhibition combining painting, print-making and smoke-fired ceramics comes to East Molesey in August.
Artists Carol Grant, Gillie Spargo and Elaine Coles come together for the exhibition, entitled Organic Matters.
Mrs Grant’s paintings and prints focus on the relationship between the land, sea and sky.
Her work ranges from an expressionist use of colour and mark-making to very detailed images of specific places and seasons.
A childhood spent by the sea has given Mrs Spargo a lasting love affair with the water and the coastline.
Her interpretations of it are varied and she likes working in many media - swaying from oil and watercolour to print and collagraphs.
Mrs Coles’ work is smoke-fired porcelain.
Her works are fired in saggars and a raku kiln allows smoke and flames to dance over the surface, creating unique marks.
She said: “I find the combination of the smoke and clay fascinating it gives my pots a sophistication, while using a fundamental and primeval approach.”
