Stars of the stage on show at Croydon's Fairfield Halls
9:37am Wednesday 5th September 2012 in Freetime By Nick Hitchens
The magic moments of the Fairfield Halls, captured in photographs taken over the past half century, are to go on show.
Following a first exhibit in spring, the work of photographer Frazer Ashford will go on display at the Croydon venue leading up to the Fairfield Halls’ 50th anniversary.
Faces of Fairfield Part Two moves away from the rock concert venue aspect of the halls featured in the first instalment and turns its attention to the great names of theatre to tread the Croydon boards.
This new exhibition of Frazer Ashford’s work photographed at Fairfield includes 60 prints.
Many of the portraits have never been seen publicly before and provide a unique insight into the backstage world of the entertainment business.
Subjects included in the show range from Dame Anna Neagle to John Cleese and from Arthur Lowe to David Jason.
Ashford, who worked at the Fairfield Halls from the 1960s to 1980s moved away from photography in 1983 to work in television, but has digitally re-mastered his originals for this show.
Displayed on the first floor of the Fairfield Halls in an open free exhibit, the photographs will be on show until November 10, the week after the venue celebrates its 50th birthday.
Faces of Fairfield, Fairfield Halls, Park Lane, Croydon; September 15 to November 10.
