Whitton welcomes market

Revitalising: A monthly market is coming to Whitton Revitalising: A monthly market is coming to Whitton

Fine French food and real ales will be available along Whitton High Street at a new monthly community market launching later this month.

Whitton Business Association has been given permission to hold a community market in Whitton High Street from Richmond Council, following a huge demand from the Whitton community.

The first one will take place on Sunday, September 30, and will feature high quality local produce and fresh foods as well as more unusual foods. There will be stalls serving a hog roast, raclette from a cheese stall and crepes made by a French chef.

For beer lovers there will be a real ale stall where shoppers can sample and buy a wide range of British and international micro-brewed beers. There will also be a children’s fairie dance stall for the little ones.

The launch of the market follows the completion of numerous other projects that have taken place as part of the council’s Uplift programme.

Bridget Clements, from Whitton Business Association, says: “We have set up the monthly markets in response to demand from the community, and we see it as a way of helping to promote our High Street and our businesses.”

Whitton’s High Street Christmas lights will be funded through proceeds from the market.

The markets are to take place on the last Sunday of the month.

The first market is planned for Sunday, September 30 from 10am to 3pm, followed by a second on Sunday, October 28.

The third will be held in conjunction with the Christmas lights switch-on on November 25.
