Red Lion in Barnes opens cellars to beer enthusiasts
7:00am Sunday 30th September 2012 in Freetime By Catriona Harvey-Jenner
The Red Lion pub in Barnes is planning an Open Cellar Day as part of cask ale week 2012, where customers can experience an exclusive tour of their cellar.
Claire Morgan and Angus McKean, who run the pub, were awarded the title of Fuller’s Master Cellarman of the Year.
The event is being held on Thursday, October 4, between 11am and 3pm; it intends to show customers how their pints are prepared and dispensed, as well as revealing the secrets behind the maintenance of their award-winning bar.
In order to be nominated for the accolade, the pub had to score 96 per cent or above in every one of the four inspections from Fuller’s beer quality team throughout the year.
Fuller’s head brewer, John Keeling, said: “When you visit a Fuller’s pub or hotel which has been awarded master cellarman status, you can be safe in the knowledge that the beer they serve is in the best possible condition; just as it is when it leaves the brewery gates.”
