Burglars beware: Smartwater tagged items in Streatham
Burglars beware, household goods are being tagged with a high-tech liquid that will allow police to trace stolen property and identify criminals.
SmartWater has a unique DNA-style code that can be read under ultraviolet light to track where stolen items come from.
Neighbourhood police have been giving out the DIY kits to residents living in Streatham Hill and Streatham Wells.
The kits were provided free of charge under a Home Office grant to the Ed-bus charity.
Lambeth Met Police Inspector Steve Jones said: "This is part of an ongoing tactic in partnership with residents to combat burglary by target hardening thus making a property less attractive to burglars."
