Youth projects get thousands of pounds in Streatham and West Norwood

A DJ school, film academy and youth cafe were among six projects given thousands of pounds this week at the discretion of teenagers.

Groove School, which runs DJ and music technology workshops at the White Lion in Streatham High Road, received £5,000 from Lambeth’s Youth Mayor Fund.

Iconic Steps Film Academy, founded by sisters from Streatham Hill, also got £5,000 and the Tashani Phillips Youth Cafe, in West Norwood, received £4,000.

Youth Mayor Samuel Davies, 16, supported by a panel of teenagers, said: "The selection process was difficult, there were 31 applications for support and some fantastic project ideas.

"But in the end we were able to choose the projects that we felt would most benefit young people in the borough and I'm looking forward to seeing the outcomes."
