Two dead after advertising board fire in Streatham
Two people have been pronounced dead after firefighters were called to a rubbish fire in Streatham.
Firefighters from Norbury fire station were called to Streatham High Road at the junction with Lewin Road at 2.10am.
When crews arrived at the scene they found a 10m by 6m advertising hoarding board and the wasteland behind it alight.
One male and one female were found at the scene and were pronounced dead by London Ambulance Service.
A 60-year-old man escaped the scene before the fire brigade arrived. He suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade specialist fire investigation unit.
