The London Orchard Project held its first training session, teaching people to care for their community orchard.

The Friends of Clapham Common (FCC) and an army of volunteers took part in the training in Clapham Common, on Saturday March 16.

It contains young fruit trees that will need special care as they grow.

The free training gave 21 local people the know-how to care for and harvest the orchard.

Melanie Oxley, chairman of FCC, said: "This training will mean that volunteers can care for the orchard, rather than expensive experts. We can do it ourselves."
