Crystal Palace fanzine triumphs over their radio rivals in Geoff Thomas charity match
Crystal Palace fans produced a goal fest as they went head-to-head in a charity football match to raise funds for a former club great.
Five Year Plan Fanzine ran out 10-6 winners against Holmesdale Radio in the second Geoff Thomas Cup clash as they aimed to raise funds for the former Eagles captain's charity which raises funds for Leukaemia Research.
Thomas recovered from cancer seven years ago and has put his efforts in raising money and awareness of Leukaemia Research ever since.
After the game FYP editor Jim Daly who scored four but also managed to dislocate a toe, said: "It was a much closer game than last time.
"We had a few players who didn't turn up and our only defender Ben Long was caught in traffic meaning he missed the first half.
"Thankfully he showed up and we recovered in the second half. It was a really enjoyable game and was played fierce but in the right spirit - exactly how Geoff Thomas used to play for Palace.
"He is an inspiration to us really, which is why we chose to support his charity with this game.
“He's also a really nice chap and anything we can do, although it's tiny amounts really compared to what he has raised, is our little token of appreciation of what he does on and off the pitch.”
