Nearly 5,000 incidents of bus drivers being attacked have been revealed by Conservatives on the Greater London Assembly.

Figures uncovered by the City Hall Tory group's police and crime spokesman, Roger Evans, show 4,967 incidents were reported between 2010 and 2013.

Streatham Guardian:

Four in 10 (38 per cent) of these incidents involve bus drivers being either physically assaulted or threatened with a weapon.

Mr Evans said: “The number of bus drivers facing physical attack or verbal abuse on London’s bus network is alarming.

"Nobody should have to put up with threats or violence while doing their job. I fully appreciate that money has been invested in patrols on our buses by the police however we need to go further."

Mr Evans has called for a full review of policing across public transport in London and "well-publicised sting operations" to deter further abuses.

now we know why most bus drivers are so miserable.no one should have to put up with these type of incidents in their work.unfortunately,i can only see the figures going up after the no cash fare deadline.

There was bitter opposition on this forum about the no cash fare proposal. The few that didn't, complained that cash payers held up the queue. I recently watched a documentary about the fare dodging and general bad behaviour that goes on the buses. It occurs to me that getting rid of the bus conductors was a false cost saving and their reinstatement would go some way to resolve a lot of these issues. How much does it cost I wonder to have these buses monitored and policed by other means. TfL should do a proper cost/benefit analysis.

Judging by the number of negatives you've received, people are still choosing to look the other way whilst this, once great, country sinks into oblivion.

Most of my posts get minuses, but not too many counter arguments, just the usual mind numbing responses filled with such nonsense that our politicians would be proud. I think it's the mentality of these people that depresses me most. Even if this country somehow finds its way back to some sort of normality, there are so many brainwashed idiots about now, that perhaps the very essence of the place has disappeared forever. For what is a country if it is not its people. This country is a wash with foreigners and those tainted with Political correctness and every year more and more come from abroad and every year the next generation of children are indoctrinated at our schools. A truly sorry state of affairs.

Several years ago I wrote to Fulwell bus depot after witnessing an unpleasant attack on a driver. My letter wasn't even acknowledged. I told them I'd be happy to give details to them or the police. Two yobs without tickets, late at night tried to pull off the wing mirror, and one spat through the holes in the driver's panel.

I think our London bus drivers are great with what they have to put up with having to take fares and the rest - at the same time as driving the bus.
Was on Battersea Bridge the other day waiting for a bus - which couldn't get along the bus lane because cars were taking it and trying to 'push in' on the queue to get over the bridge. Me and this other lady (complete stranger) decided to stand in the road and try to stop the cars from using the bus lane - our bus driver was really laughing when he finally arrived.

So i'm narrow minded because my opinion differs from yours. I personally haven't swallowed the lie that immigration is good for this country and quite frankly i'm not interested in your opinion. I don't care whether you pay your taxes or not, to me that is irrelevant. There is more to all of this than money. Nothing I have said is untrue. This country does have many more immigrants in it compared to the past. Over 12% the last time I looked, it could be more by now and the country is ruled with political correctness in mind, so that means there are lots of people who follow those doctrines. I think that it is wrong, but that is my right to think that. Unsurprisingly, you think it's good and that is your right to think that. Why get offended? Come back with something to counter my argument, don't just use the offence card. I could be offended by you calling me narrow minded, a direct attack on me, but i'm above that. I can't be offended, certainly not by words.

@kingstonpaul

Firstly, I'm not flying the flag for UKIP, i'm going to vote for them because they have the biggest chance of actually achieving something. I'm sure, like the 3 main parties, I wouldn't like much about UKIP candidates either, but at least they will ensure our exit from Europe and that is all that matters, at the moment. Secondly, if you can't see what my post has got to do with the story, then you were never going to vote UKIP anyway. You are one of the brainwashed idiots, can't you see that?

This is the most important point. The people of this 'democratic' country were never asked. Mass immigration has changed this country forever. Places like Bradford or Southall or Luton etc, they have changed completely over the last 50 years. Take Sutton, it had hardly any foreign born people living in it 20 years ago, look at it now. Such drastic change should have warranted a say so by the population. The working classes and some others did speak up and complain about it in the 50s and 60s, but were soon demonized and stopped. Laws were introduced to stop employers and people discriminating against immigrants and their last defense was removed. Mass immigration starting after WW2 was ill thought out and largely unnecessary. The jobs that supposedly needed doing like bus conductors and cleaning etc could have easily been carried out by the thousands of women leaving the war factories. Our leaders at the time still had a colonial outlook and opened up the country to a possible 600 million people throughout the empire. They soon put some restrictions on it. New Labour in the late 90s upto leaving office stepped it up to really change things. To me, the money side of it is secondary, but whenever a country has a lot of immigrant workers the wages are kept low. This is not a good thing for the working poor or for society as a whole. Big business likes immigration because it provides them with cheap labour. Big business call the shots in government so mass immigration is what we get. There is no great vision of a multi-cultural utopia where everyone gets along and lives in harmony. This is pure economics.

If the foreign born population has grown to over 12% in the last 60 years then, because of increased birth rates, by 2050, this figure could be as high as 35% - 40%. I find that truly shocking and disturbing. In any other time these figures would mean an invasion has taken place. If we get to that point then by the end of the century the English, Welsh and Scottish peoples will be endangered species. England and its culture and heritage is under threat. If this carries on, within the next 100 years it will all be over. There will still be millions of Indians and Chinese and Africans etc, all still living their lives as before, but us lot, we'll be long gone. I don't think my ancestors went through the last 1000 years + for it to end like this and end like this it will if nothing changes.

Er yes, perhaps the most fundamental difference there is. Or at least the most obvious. I celebrate our differences, I don't pretend there aren't any. My outlook on life, my experiences, my culture, my language, can be very different to say someone who has arrived from china or India. I use the word foreigner because that is what they are. It is not used as an insult, I do not hate or wish bad upon these people, I just don't want so many of them living in my country, especially when my country has already got problems and them being here is changing what i love.

There aren't to many stories that don't concern immigration one way or the other. To be fair this story isn't directly connected to immigration, but it does demonstrate how much this country has changed and mass immigration has played a big role in that change.

Having in a previous post said nice things about bus drivers.
A complaint - they have bus lanes for their own personal use - but insist on straying onto the motorists lanes - leaving their bus lane empty - and the motorists can't use the bus lane.
This happens a lot around the Wandsworth Round about at Wandsworth Bridge. The other afternoon a 28 bus left the bus lane on the south side of the bridge and straddled 2 motorists lanes in its attempt to turn right and go towards Wandsworth town centre.
So maybe these attackers are angry motorists.

I dont think anyone here is blaming immigrants for large scale immigration - theyr'e blaming the politicians. Nor is it relevant how much or how little they contribute. The fact is no one asked us.

So basically you are racist

@Dr Martin

I haven't written one word that is racist. Everything I have written is fact. Do some research yourself. You may not like it or think it worthy of mention, but nothing I have said is false. You probably don't even know what the word 'racist' really means. I've said it before and I'll say it again.......your an idiot.
