Lambeth roads in need of repair left off list of works

Lambeth roads in desperate need of resurfacing have been left off the list for repairs while others in less need will be improved, it has been claimed.

Lib Dem councillors are seeking more detailed information on how roads due to be repaired were selected, following a Freedom of Information request to obtain the year’s programme of works.

Streatham Hill councillor Jeremy Clyne said Salford Road in Streatham Hill was in "serious disrepair" but not included in the programme, while other roads in better condition were.

But Councillor Sally Prentice, cabinet member for the environment, said a careful system ensured the roads chosen for resurfacing were the ones that needed it most, and a record £6m was being invested so big improvements were seen in roads and pavements across the borough.

She added: “But with over 200 miles of roads in Lambeth, we can’t resurface all of them, but by investing extra money we get closer to making sure more and more roads in the borough are of a high standard.”
