Clapham Park Homes has been shortlisted for £9.5m funding to build new homes and to provide local jobs and apprenticeships.
The announcement was made by Housing Minister John Healey MP last Thursday as part of the Government’s Kickstart programme. The programme aims to support housebuilding sites which have been affected by the credit crunch.
Mr Healey said: “We are using the power of government investment to build homes and support jobs at a time when the housebuilding industry needs it most.
“I’m making it a condition of getting this government money that all builders offer recruitment of local people and apprenticeship schemes.”
The project will now be assessed by the Homes and Communities Agency, which will decide whether the funding of Clapham Park Homes should go ahead.
Chuka Umunna, Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Streatham, said he was “delighted” by this opportunity.
