Louisiana blues legend to wow Streatham

Streatham Guardian: Louisiana bluesman Lazy Lester Louisiana bluesman Lazy Lester

A legendary bluesman who influenced The Kinks is set to play at the Hideaway jazz club on Streatham High Road this Sunday.

Lazy Lester, 79, one of the greats of Louisiana blues, will perform one set at 2pm and second at about 3.30pm with Big Joe Louis and his band.

Lester, who now lives in Paradise, California, will play late 50s recordings such as ‘I’m a Lover Not a Fighter,’ which was covered by The Kinks.

As one of the creators of ‘swamp blues,’ a mixture of blues, swamp pop and classic country, Lester has played with legends Lightnin’ Slim and Slim Harpo.
