All set for elderly Olympic Games in Streatham

Olympic fever has inspired a group of older people to host their own Games in Streatham next week.

But the sporting event is more sedate with ten contests including synchronised tea drinking, an egg and spoon race and a knitting marathon.

About 100 elderly people are expected to take part in the Olympic fun day on Monday at St Leonard’s Church.

Reverend Lisa Wright, a retired curate who chairs The Freedom Group of retired people at the church, said they had invited seven other old peoples groups.

Rev Wright said: "To our amazement they all said they would come along.

"It’s going to be great."

The fun day lasts from 11am to 4pm.
