Green fingered volunteers are seeing results for their work creating an ‘edible bus stop.’

Gardeners turned out to work on Sunday at a once-neglected patch of ground near a bus stop in West Norwood.

There is a similar plot in Stockwell and the Edible Bus Stop project is looking to create small gardens along the 322 bus route through Clapham, Herne Hill, Tulse Hill and Gipsy Hill.

Makaela Gilchrist, one of the project’s co-founders, said: "We were really pleased to see that the garden must have been looked after.

"The area was looked after and fruit had been picked, which is exactly what we wanted. "It’s still in its humble early stages, but it’s looking great.

"We are looking forward to making this a flagship of what can be done with community spaces."
