MP accuses officer of 'dirty tricks'
An MP has accused a senior police officer of sleeping with his aide at his Streatham home as part of a ‘dirty tricks campaign’.
Respect MP George Galloway has claimed the officer slept there without his knowledge and set up fake email addresses in a bid to smear him.
The Met said an officer in specialist operations has been put on restricted duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
MP Galloway has called on the Home Secretary Theresa May to investigate a ‘campaign of vilification’ involving a member of the counter-terrorism squad.
The Bradford West MP also filed an early day motion accusing Afiz Khan of entering his home without consent and using an alias on Facebook to discredit him.
In a letter to the home secretary, published on his website, Mr Galloway claims after the burglary of a parliamentary laptop from his home in June it transpired that Mr Khan had been staying there without consent.
He said: "Within hours of that I learned that he and xxxxx had been sleeping in my house, and without permission, while I was abroad.
"This came out because he had to tell the officers investigating the burglary that his fingerprints would be found in the house."
On his website, Mr Galloway alleges the officer had been feeding disinformation to a national newspaper and sent an email to his aide making false allegations of election fraud.
He accused the aide of leaking and distorting information from his office and suspended her.
But his now former secretary Aisha Ali-Khan has told the Guardian that she is married to Mr Khan and has ‘been thrown to the wolves.’
To the Guardian Ms Ali-Khan dismissed talk of conspiracy and denied her husband had ever slept at the Streatham home, but only ‘popped in’ to use the toilet.
She is quoted in the newspaper as saying: "Not only have I lost my job and my credibility but I've been branded this tart sleeping with random police officers."
