More than a dozen volunteers got out paintbrushes and ladders on Sunday to transform three empty shops in Streatham.

The Community Freshview day was held to revamp the corner of Greyhound Lane and Tankerville Road - an eyesore which has attracted street drinkers and antisocial behaviour.

Streatham South Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Helen Smith, who organised the day, said: "It was brilliant. It was such a good day.

"It think it has made a real difference to how that corner looks. It was a real community effort."

Councillors and local businesspeople stopped by on the day, with landlords bringing round tea and coffee for the workers.

Community Freshview is a council initiative to bring neighbours together to spruce up their streets and local area.
