Police want to give a "birthday to remember" to a suspected armed robber who is on the run.

Anthony Morrison made off from Manchester Airport after flying in from Amsterdam for an agreed meeting with Greater Manchester Police who were to arrest him in connection with a supermarket robbery in Oldham last year.

Officers were waiting in the immigration area at Terminal 1 on July 6 with Morrison en route when he decided to flee to the adjoining Terminal 3 building.

He brushed aside three members of staff who challenged him and kicked open a fire door which led to the baggage reclaim area of Terminal 3. He then walked through the arrivals hall and is thought to have left the airport in a taxi.

A police review of Morrison's escape was launched to look at why officers decided not to arrest him airside as he got off the plane from Schiphol Airport.

Morrison, 33, has a history of violence and is not to be approached by the public.

He has links to Oldham, Rochdale, particularly Middleton and Salford, as well as the wider Greater Manchester area.

Detective Inspector Ann Buckley, of Oldham CID, said: "Inquiries are continuing to locate Anthony Morrison, who continues to pose a risk to the public. This man has been violent in the past so it is vital that we warn people to be on their guard while at the same at the same time we are appealing for information about him.

"We want to give Anthony a birthday to remember and have him spend it with us, so if you see him out and about or know where he is please call us."

Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161 856 8951 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
