Carshalton Athletic boss wants attackers to thrive in the box

Carshalton Athletic’s new manager Tommy Williams has demanded more desire and determination from his attackers.

The Robins have suffered back to back defeats in the Ryman League Premier Division – 2-1 at Kingstonian on Saturday and 1-0 to Whitehawk on Tuesday.

Despite the fact that both opponents are vying for the top spot in the table, Williams, speaking after the Whitehawk defeat, is asking for more from his frontmen.

He said: “The boys worked really hard, particularly in the second half, but I felt we needed a little bit more desire to get on the end of things in the box.

“Whitehawk’s front players exploit gaps in front of defences well so, to nullify that, I played Michael (Kamara) in holding midfield and thought that he and the defence did well overall.

“I felt our work rate certainly deserved at least a point, as we made them change their shape near the end because we kept and passed the ball well for long periods.”

Carshalton turn their attention to the FA Trophy this weekend with a trip to King’s Lynn of the Evo-Stik Division One South.

They will have to face them without Harry Harding after the midfielder returned to Bromley.
