Welsh star Henson: I'll be judged at season's end

London Welsh star Gavin Henson may be enjoying his new life in Richmond, but he admits there remains some way to go until he is re-established on rugby’s A-list. 

The 30-year-old former British & Irish Lion has started life in the Premiership well as the Exiles have won three of their opening eight league clashes since promotion from the Championship.
 

Henson, who is out to avoid his career being a story of unfulfilled potential at Old Deer Park, was a late arrival in head coach Lyn Jones’s squad this summer and missed the opening month due to a fractured cheekbone.
 

But no matter how hard he tries to make up for lost time since being released by Cardiff Blues, he knows his – and London Welsh’s day of reckoning – will be in May.
 

“Wales head coach Rob Howley said I need to have a season of rugby under my belt before I’d be considered for the national team,” he said.
 

“So from that perspective I’m a very long way off international rugby.  Of course I’d love to play for Wales, but that is a long way off. I’ve got to put a lot of performances together before that happens.
 

“The Lions is even further away. For me the priority is survival in the Premiership.”
