CRYSTAL Palace slumped to a second successive Premier League defeat as Newcastle ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at a wet and windswept Selhurst Park on Saturday.

However, neither the weather nor the result could dampen Jonny Parr’s spirits.

Palace’s Norwegian left-back made his top flight debut, returning to action as a hal- time substitute after a long spell out with an ankle injury. He said: “It is great to be back playing at Selhurst Park.

“I think it has been eight months since I played my last competitive game.

“It has been frustrating.

“I got an injury last season and was out for a long time and even though I have been back for a little while, we have changed manager, which probably didn't come at a good time for me.

“But I have been working hard all of the time and I am fit and ready to go for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully I will get more chances to show what I can do.”

The result infuriated new boss Tony Pulis who had overseen somewhat of a recovery since taking the job last month.

And the former Stoke City boss let Parr and the rest his charges know they cannot afford a repeat performance as they head into a crucial run of games over the festive period, starting at Villa Park on Boxing Day.

Parr explained: “He was disappointed today because we didn't start well enough and made it difficult for ourselves.

“That's not how we want to be - we want to be ready when the game starts and be prepared.

“Everyone is a bit down and disappointed with the result because we know we can do better.

“But we can't do anything about this game now, we just have to make sure we look forward to the next game and try to pick up some points.”

He added: “We have two tough away games now.

“We are hoping to get something out of the Villa game and then we go to Manchester City, where if were to get anything it would be a bonus.”
