Twickenham pair set sights on world indoor champs selection in Sheffield
St Mary’s University’s in-form pair Andrew Osagie and Charlie Grice head to the British Indoor Championships this weekend with the pressure off, having already bagged World Indoor Championship qualifying times.
Osagie clocked one minute 46.48 seconds over 800m at the PSD Bank meeting in Germany last Thursday to finish second behind Poland’s Adam Kszczot.
He now has his sights on booking his Team GB place in Sheffield for next month’s world indoors in Poland.
“It was a bit frustrating for me last Saturday,” said the Twickenham-based 25-year-old.
“I’ve been training very well and am in good shape.
“It was my first time racing in Germany and I really enjoyed it. It’s a great atmosphere, the crowd are really close to the track.
“I ran a really good time here, I got the qualification time for the world indoors and another PB, so things are going well.
“I’m at the trials next week and will try to get the job done.”
There was complete Kenyan domination in the men’s 1,500m race as Grice, 20, finished seventh in 3:40.97.
“I got the world indoor by 3,000th of a second, so the pressure’s off now as I go to the the world trials,” said the 20-year-old.
“Hopefully, I’ll come in the top two and get on the plane to Sopot.”
