Moxey prepares for 10 cup finals to keep Crystal Palace in the Premier League
Crystal Palace full-back Dean Moxey is preparing for 10 cup finals between now and the end of the Premier League season.
Saturday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Southampton left the Eagles lingering just two points above the drop zone in 16th.
The Eagles were sunk by Jay Rodriguez’s 37th minute goal that came after Jason Puncheon's lose header fell just short of Moxey as the home side were attacking.
The forward - an unused substitute for England’s game midweek - broke the length of the field, took on goalkeeper Julian Speroni who had charged out of his penalty area, and hooked the ball into the net from the floor.
Moxey, who returned to the side after five weeks on the sidelines, said: “I think we deserved something out of the game.
"Possibly the second half was better than the first half, but we didn’t get that many crosses in the box and we didn’t get that finishing touch.
“He (Puncheon)’s tried to head it back and Rodriguez’s nicked it just in front of me. They got that little bit of luck.
“Speroni could have come out and got it but Rodriguez has won the 50/50 and got an open goal. He’s played for England, he should put it away.”
The 28-year-old added: "I could have taken him out. He nicked it just in front of me, but if I did take him out it’s probably a red card for me. It is one of those things.”
With 10 games to play, Crystal Palace – whose torrid away form has yielded just six goals in 13 games this season - have to travel to all three bottom sides.
Moxey rejected the notion that their fate depends on those games alone.
He said: “They are all going to be hard. It’s a cliché, but like the gaffer said, every day is going to be like a cup final.
“We have got to carry on and do what we do and if we show the commitment we did today, we need that little touch at the end and we’ll get the points.”
