Flowers is starting to bloom ahead of Silverstone date
Banstead speed merchant Matt Flowers may have suffered a bittersweet weekend in the Ginetta GT5 G40 Challenge, but he is convinced the team is moving in the right direction.
Flowers sits ninth in the standings after six of 21 rounds, having endured the best and worst of his season last weekend at Rockingham.
A seventh and fifth placed finish in the fourth and fifth rounds, was ruined by a DNF in the sixth round.
He said: “The opening races were very solid, and we were well on the pace, in fact in the second race we were fourth fastest.
“In the final race, we were fourth on the grid but the car electrics failed between the garage and the start. We did manage to get out eventually and got up to sixth, but then the electrics went again, which was a frustrating end.”
He added: “But we’re starting to get some consistency in placings, and had that continued into the final race, we could have been in the top six in the standings.”
The series moves on to Silverstone on June 1, with Flowers, who races with Academy Motorsport, better prepared than this time last year.
He said: “It really helps having that experience of knowing the circuit, but we are hindered by not having proper testing time, we go into each meeting with limited practice because we do not have the funding.
"I have a couple of sponsors, but we could do with a major sponsor that can fund proper testing during the week.
"There is nothing to say the title cannot be won without major backing, but it gives you an advantage."
