AFC Wimbledon’s first signing of the summer Sean Rigg has revealed his heart was set on joining the club as soon as he met boss Neal Ardley.

After Rigg’s release from Oxford United at the end of last season, Ardley moved to bring the 25-year-old to the Cherry Reds Record stadium and clearly left a lasting impression on the forward.

The former Port Vale man said: “Shortly after I was let go from Oxford, Neal spoke to my agent, and wanted to have a chat with me.

“I was interested straight away, so I went down and spoke to him, he showed me round the training ground, and came back to me with an offer from there.

“He made a really good impression. He’s still young but he’s got a lot to offer for a manager, and I think that’s a good thing.”

The forward did not take long to make his mind up about the transfer despite offers from elsewhere and described his happiness at the environment he now finds himself in.

“It took me a week to make my mind up. I had a little time to think about few things, but as soon as I went down there I knew in my head that it was a place I can be and can definitely be happy at.”

Ardley’s previous playing experience also made it easier for Rigg to make the decision to join the League Two side.

“Neal knows what it’s like to be a player so he can relate to the squad and that’s really important,” he added.

“I had interest from other clubs but as soon as I came down to Wimbledon I had it in my head to go there no matter what.”

l Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon has announced three public exhibitions will be held later this month to reveal proposals for a new stadium at Plough Lane.
