Streatham Guardian: Ascot review, Irish Derby and Weekend Racing tips Ascot review, Irish Derby and Weekend Racing tips

Royal Ascot was a good week for the tipping column with 8 winners and 6 each-way places out of the 35 declared tips making for a profitable week. There was also 8 other horses who placed but they were not named as each-way selections in the column due to their low odds.

The 8 winners tipped by the column were Mustajeeb (13/2), Cannock Chase (5/2), Bracelet (12/1), Eagle Top (12/1), Rizeena (7/1), Arab Spring (7/2), Telescope (9/4) and Pique Sous (4/1) who all took victory in their races.

The each-way tips that placed were Estimate (9/1 2nd), Capella Sansevero (7/1 2nd), Horsted Keynes (8/1 2nd), Due Diligence (7/1 2nd), Professor (18/1 2nd) and Rocky Ground (10/1 placed)

The other horses that placed were Verrazano, Hot Streak, Aljaamaaheer, Night of Thunder, Bold Sniper, Adelaide, Patience Alexander and Century.

This week’s big races take place in both England and Ireland. The Northumberland Plate is live on Channel 4 from Newcastle whilst the Irish Derby comes from the Curragh.

The Irish Derby sees the reappearance of Derby winner Australia as well as 2nd place horse Kingston Hill who will be looking to reverse the form from Epsom. Trainer Roger Varian has stated that Kingston Hill will only run if the forecasted rain arrives and the going is no faster than “Good”. The 5 other declared runners include 3 from Aidan O’Brien’s yard who all ran at Epsom (Orchestra (12th), Geoffrey Chaucer (16th and last) and Kingfisher (10th)) as well as fellow Derby participant Fascinating Rock from Dermot Weld’s Irish yard who finished 8th in the race. With only 7 runners, the each-way placings will only pay the first 2 and there really is no value in the market unless there is at least 1-2cm worth of rain and even then it would be difficult to see Kingston Hill overturning the deficit with Australia.
