Croydon Harriers have been relegated from the top flight of the Southern Athletics League, after a fourth place finish at Stevenage on Saturday.

The Harriers battled hard throughout the day with their highest points total away from home so far season with 153.5.

However, it was not enough and relegation was confirmed today (Monday) after the remaining results came in.

The Harriers, relegated alongside Havering, Enfield & Haringey AC and Radley AC, will ply their trade in Division Two South next season.

Wins were hard to come by on a competitive afternoon, but English Schools finalist Mityrae Brooks leapt to 1.90m to take the high jump spoils on count-back from two rivals who cleared the same height.

Stevie Lawrence won the 400m in 59.9 secondss, adding to her runners-up spot in the pole vault (2.40m) and third in the high jump (1.40m).

There was a good showing on the field though, with 16-year-old David Olajiga (13.06m) and 65-year-old Tony Richards (9.67m) notching seconds in the A and B shot putt competitions.

Runners-up spots also went to Richmond Baah (javelin, 48.33m), Marcelle Rowe (400m hurdles, 61.9secs), Chris King (hammer, 24.23m), Sonyce Archer (100m hurdles, 17.2secs), Tamara Reid (discus, 30.85m) and the women’s 4x100m team.

There were B wins in the women’s section for Sabrina Stoute in the pole vault (2.20m) and Cora Sexton (triple jump, 9.73m).
