Neal Ardley says there is still one piece missing in the AFC Wimbledon jigsaw, but he is not convinced he will get his man before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Dons boss brought in nine new names over the summer, and despite a solid start to the League Two season Ardley has an eye to bring in another on loan.

However, he also believes his specific requirements will render any possible target hard to hit.

“We’re looking at perhaps bringing in a forward man, whether that’s a wide man or a bigger centre forward in case we need to replace Bayo [Akinfenwa] during games, we’re not decided,” he said.

“But it will be difficult, because any club who wants to loan you a good player wants that good player to be getting plenty of game time.

“But we want someone who will push the lads, and do their best to actually get in to the team.”

He added: “It’s all about finding the right player you to do the job you want for the team.”

Meanwhile, Ardley has also played down the early reliance on the goals of Matt Tubbs.

The striker has four goals in all competitions so far, equating to almost 70 per cent of the Dons current goals tally.

Ardley said: “Matt has scored the goals so far and that is what he was brought in for.

“I would not say it is a problem at the moment, I have watched the games back and Bayo could have had five by now, Riggs could have had another three, Francomb and Benno have had chances.

“The most pleasing thing is that we look like we’re going to score, it’s obvious we’re having a go.

“Against Hartlepool we had 17 attempts on goal.”

He added: “Sometimes it takes a while to get going, and I am sure everyone will soon start chipping in – at the moment Tubbs is the one getting the goals.”
