X-ray confirms Dons midfielder's metatarsal is not broken

AFC Wimbledon midfielder Stacy Long is facing two weeks on the sidelines after picking up a foot injury in the 1-0 League Two win at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

However, it could have been a lot worse as caretaker manager Simon Bassey was fearful that the former Stevenage Borough man had broken his metatarsal.

An x-ray on Monday afternoon confirmed there was no break but heavy swelling and bruising means Long is likely to be out for a fortnight.

On Tuesday Bassey said: "Stacy took a knock to the foot against Wycombe. We were concerned about it although Stacy said he'd broken his metatarsal before and that this time round it felt different and so he wasn't certain it was a break.

"The physio suspected a crack in the bone, but the x-ray gave us good news, although the bad news is there is a lot of swelling. It has gone down since the weekend but I would imagine Stacy will be out for up to two weeks. We just have to wait and see how it heals."

Long is likely to miss the League Two home match against Accrington Stanley, while Bassey is hopeful Pim Balkestein will return from injury.
