London Wasps and London Welsh will kick-off Harle-quins Premiership title defence in September as the club broke season ticket sales records this week.

Director of rugby Conor O’Shea’s men face Wasps in the London Double Header at Twickenham stadium on September 1, before hosting top flight new boys Welsh the following week.

Quins’ title triumph last season has seen season ticket sales go past the 7,000 barrier this week – 6,900 had been sold at the same stage last year.

“Breaking our previous record is very encouraging, but we are urging more supporters to take out season ticket packages,” said chief executive David Ellis.

The news came before England head coach Stuart Lancaster announced nine Stoop stars had been picked in his Elite Player and Saxons squads on Thursday.

Skipper Chris Robshaw, Joe Marler, Danny Care, Jordan Turner-Hall and Mike Brown were in Lancaster’s first choice 32-man squad, while Ugo Monye, George Lowe, George Robson and Joe Gray were in the second string.
