Jan Bonney is at a loss to explain why Rosslyn Park’s promotion bandwagon came off the rails on Saturday.

Despite leading Tynedale 16-8 at half-time with tries from Steve Parsons and Joe Trayfoot, Park collapsed in the second-half to lose 37-23 and fell to their second successive National League One defeat.

Just two weeks after topping the table, they have now slipped to fourth, six points behind leaders Jersey but only one off second-placed Ealing Trailfinders.

“I don’t really know what happened in the second half,” admitted head coach Bonney, whose side did add another try after the break through Lorne Ward.

“Defensively we were not up for it and when we gave the ball away we couldn’t get it back for long periods of time.

“I cannot offer answers to what happened other than we didn’t do what we said we would do at half time.

“All along we have said this is a mental league and we have to be on it mentally for 80 minutes.

“We had had a good 40 minutes but mentally we were poor second half and need to find out why that was.

“Tynedale played really well in and full credit to them but I am hoping it was just one bad second-half performance from us.”

Park will now look to get their promotion push back on track when they go a rejuvenated Cinderford side on Saturday who only narrowly lost to Jersey last weekend.

“It is a massive game and they are the form side,” added Bonney.

“Again it is one where we will have to focus for 80 minutes.

“The only thing we can handle in the promotion race is performing and winning - there is no reason why we cannot win all 10 games we have left.”
